Artist's Statement

Through the medium of landscape photography I deal indirectly but purposefully with the relationship between man and his environment. My photographs examine the historic and contemporary links between man's view of the landscape and the subsequent self-reflective view of his place within it. Looking beyond the simply picturesque, my landscape photographs consider intimate themes of loss and remembrance, as well as complex ideas of the Sublime and the artificial.

Separate from this practice I also like to indulge in live music photography as a hobby and challenge wholly apart from the isolation of landscape photography. I take great pleasure in the moment by moment nature of the live music environment with lights constantly changing and band members moving suddenly there is a challenge and discipline that is a refreshing contrast to the steady and sure-footed life of a landscape photographer. It is also a wonderful chance to network with and befriend the bands that I appreciate in order to both move into a position to be able to take future photographs and help them with the promotion of their bands.
